Services

Sessions for two

Every session is 80 minutes, with both of you in the room or on the video call.

  • Four sessions

    Premarital counseling

Four sessions on the conversations many couples put off: money, family, home and closeness. Each of you fills out a short questionnaire first.

    About premarital counseling
  • At your pace

    Couples therapy

For couples who are married or together and want help with a pattern that keeps returning. Your clinician sets the pace with you.

    About couples therapy
  • One topic

    A single session

One 80-minute conversation on one topic, such as money or in-laws. You can add the rest of the package later.

The package

Four sessions, one topic each

Each session is 80 minutes. A short questionnaire, which you each fill out alone before the first, shapes the plan.

  1. 01

Step 1: Where you are now

You each say what you picture for the marriage, and the two of you read your questionnaire together.

    • What each of you expects

    • How you talk when you disagree

    • Your questionnaire, read together

  2. 02

    Step 2: Money and home

Income, debt, savings and who pays for what, said out loud, along with how you will share the work at home.

    • Money habits and shared goals

    • Debt and savings

    • Who does what at home

  3. 03

Step 3: Family, faith and culture

In-laws, holidays, the language you speak at home, faith, traditions and, if you want them, children.

    • Families on both sides

    • Traditions and holidays

    • Faith and children, if they matter to you

  4. 04

Step 4: Closeness and your plan

Affection, intimacy and time together, then a plan for what you will do when you disagree.

    • Affection and time together

    • Repairing after an argument

    • A one-page plan to keep

Your clinician sets the pace. If you want more time on one topic, you can add sessions at the same fee.

How fees work

The answers to what nearly everyone asks before a first session.

  • Insurance we work with

Threshold is out of network with insurance plans, so you pay for each session yourself. We do not take Medicare or Medicaid. If you would rather see someone who bills your plan, we will gladly give you colleagues' names.

    • Out of network with insurance plans

    • No Medicare or Medicaid

  • If you pay yourself

You pay at the end of each session by card, including HSA and FSA cards, and nothing is paid in advance. The fee is set by the kind of session: a couples session of 80 minutes, or the premarital package of four 80-minute sessions, one topic each. We give you the fee in writing before the first session. A limited number of reduced-fee spots are open; ask how to request one. Please give 24 hours' notice to change a session.

  • Receipts for reimbursement

Each month we give you an itemized receipt (a superbill) with the dates and kind of session, to send to your plan, which may reimburse part of out-of-network care. It carries a diagnosis code your insurer can see. Your plan decides whether it pays anything; ask it before you start.

  • An estimate in advance

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a written good faith estimate of what your care will cost before you start. We send you one before the first session. If the final bill is $400 or more above the estimate, you can dispute it. The estimate is not a contract.

    Your rights, at cms.gov/nosurprises
  • Checking your benefits

We do not check benefits, because we do not bill your plan. If you want to know whether your plan reimburses, call it before the first session and ask about out-of-network mental health services.

  • What the first session includes

The first session is 80 minutes, with both of you in the room or on the call. Leslie explains how she works and what stays confidential, and the two of you start on the first topic. It is billed at the usual session fee.

Questions

Questions we hear most

If yours is not here, write to us.

Do you take my insurance?

No. Threshold is out of network with insurance plans, and we do not take Medicare or Medicaid. You pay for each session yourself, and we can give you a receipt to send to your plan. Your plan decides whether it reimburses any of it.

How are fees set, and when will we hear ours?

A couples session is 80 minutes, and the premarital package is four of them. The fee follows the kind of session, and we send it in writing before your first one. You pay at the end of each session. The How fees work page explains the rest.

What happens in the first session?

You both come, in person or by video. Leslie explains how she works, what stays confidential and its limits, and the possible risks and benefits of counseling. Then you talk about what you hope for. Nobody is tested, and nobody has to say more than they want to.

How often and how long are sessions?

Each session is 80 minutes. They are usually every one to two weeks, and Leslie sets the pace with you. The package is four sessions, and you can add more if you want them.

What do I do in a crisis?

This site is not monitored around the clock. If you are in crisis, call or text 988, any time, and press 2 for Spanish or text AYUDA. In an emergency, call 911.

What stays confidential, and what are the limits?

What you say is private, and we share records only as the law allows. The exceptions are a risk of serious harm to you or someone else, abuse of a child or an older adult, and a court order. In couples work Leslie does not keep secrets between the two of you, and she explains this at the first session.
